Today's foray on a beautiful autumn day was held at Keene's Goose Pond, where beavers were actively felling trees into the water in advance of winter. Conditions were dry, as in all recent forays. Nonetheless, there were notable fungal encounters. Among the edibles were king boletes, numerous slippery jacks and sooty wax caps, a hedgehog and a birch bolete. Other interesting finds included surprise webcaps, hypholomas, trembling crust, and the find of the day, a sheep polypore.
